Mediation Information

  • Mediation “means a process by which the parties involved in a dispute voluntarily agree or are referred or ordered by a court to enter into discussion and negotiation with the assistance of a neutral person.” KSA 5-502: (e)
  • Mediation focuses on parental responsibilities.
  • Mediation assists parents to communicate effectively and focus on what is best for the children.
  • Both parents are important and significant to their children.
  • Mediation promotes negotiation, effective communication, cooperative spirit, and trust building.
  • Each parent will be assessed a $25 fee to be paid with cash, money order, or cashier’s check.
  • It is policy that all parents must complete the Parenting Through Divorce Class or an equivalent class before their appointment. These types of classes are offered through Four County Mental Health or other mental health centers.
